Dr. Spyros Catechis is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Young Learners. As CEO, Dr. Catechis is responsible for the overall management, strategic direction, and oversight of Young Learners and its related programs and sites. After meeting with other community leaders regarding the gap in pre-school education services in Houston, Dr. Catechis founded the Young Learners program in 1994. He is most passionate about advocating and providing educational services to children who come from vulnerable communities of greatest need.
During his career in education which spans over thirty years, Dr. Catechis has been intensely interested and involved in working with children and families who are facing adversity. Dr. Catechis has worked in a variety of roles with children and families as a school psychologist, educational diagnostician, certified teacher and professor at the university level. Since 1979, Dr. Catechis has maintained a private practice, Houston Educational Consultants, employing psychologists and speech pathologists that can provide a variety of assessments, speech and language therapy, and educational/psychological consultation to local community agencies and schools within the Houston area.
Dr. Catechis holds Bachelor and Master degrees as well as a Doctorate of Educational Psychology from the University of Houston. Dr. Catechis is a member of the American Psychological Association, American Group Psychotherapy Association and holds Diplomat status in Behavioral Medicine.
